1. Which chapter in World History did you enjoy most this year and why?
The chapter in World History I enjoyed the most this year was learning about Ancient Rome. I enjoyed this chapter because I like learning about the Coliseum and all the events that happened there.
  1. Describe some of the things that you learned in that chapter. Is there a project that you completed that you enjoyed working on?
In this chapter, I learned about what Rome used to be like and also a little bit of Italy.
  1. What new skills have you learned throughout the year?
New skills I have learned throughout year are having better study habits so that I can get good grades on tests.
  1. How can you apply this knowledge to the real world?
I can apply this knowledge to the real world by studying for tests and exams in college so can get a job.

Revolution in the Americas

IV. The Revolution Spreads
  1. A local priest, Miguel Hidalgo, asked the villagers to revolt against the Spanish.
  2. Many people under Spanish rule longed for political and economical rule.
  3. Latin Americans were not allowed to self-government.
  4. A Spanish king made all the important decisions.
  5. These strict rules held back Latin Americans economic growth.

V. Independence for Mexico and Central America
a. Father Hidalgo’s army began marching toward Mexico City.
b. Father Hidalgo was captured by the Spanish and executed in 1811.
c. Jose Maria Morelos was a farm worker that studied to be a priest.
d. A new revolution broke out in 1820.
e. In 1821, Augustin de Iturbide fought off the Spanish and proclaimed independence for Mexico.
f. In 182, they threw out the Spanish and joined Iturbide’s empire of Mexico.
g. In 1823, they formed the United Provinces of Central America.
h. The United Provinces split into nations of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

VI. Independence for South America
  1. Simon Bolivar dreamed of freeing South America from Spanish rule.
  2. In the south, Jose de san Martin forced out the Spanish.
  3. In Chile, Bernardo O’Higgins organized an army.
  4. Peru had declared independence in 1821.
  5. In 1824, Simon Bolivar’s troops crushed a Spanish-led army.
  6. Almost all of Latin America was politically independent.
